GHANA 69TH INDEPENDENCE DAY
For the 69th celebration of Ghana’s Independence, we came together to create something that felt bigger than an event. We called it Community Day
This special gathering was a collaboration between MOSAIKO, Y3Y3 and Sankofa Archives three groups joining forces with a shared goal: to create a space where the Ghanaian diaspora in the Netherlands could come together, celebrate, and reconnect.
Taking place in Amsterdam, the idea behind Community Day was simple but powerful. These kinds of gatherings are the glue of community. They create space for people to meet, reconnect, celebrate culture, and share moments together, creating that feeling of belonging we missed growing up in a Western society.
It’s something many of us grew up around: the parties, the music, the food, the laughter, the same energy our parents created whenever they gathered with friends and family. Now more than ever, we see and understand the importance of this.
We started by creating a collaborative T-Shirt with our friends from Humble The Brand. Still available for pre-order (Click here to get yours)
A symbol of union, something to remember this day, and a shot to go with it.
Something to celebrate the Ghanaian community all around the world, something for everybody to share.
Community Day reminded us why these moments matter. They build bridges, strengthen identity, and keep culture alive within the diaspora.
It was our way of carrying that tradition forward, while giving it a new expression for our generation and the one coming after us.
Throughout the evening, the space was alive. People danced, played games, watched films together, shared food, and celebrated the culture that connects us all. There were dance battles, bingo with prizes, and moments where the whole room moved together to the sound of Ghanaian classics and new hits. The DJs kept the energy high all night.
Most importantly, it was beautiful to see people come together. Ghanaians and people from all backgrounds joined in the celebration. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and full of pride.
To everyone who came through and shared this moment with us
Thank you.
This was only the beginning
Let’s strengthen more bridges together. 🇬🇭✨
