FROM THE BLOCK 4 THE BLOCK: MOSAIKO ARRIVES IN ITALY
For our first Block Party in Milan, we chose to start from Quarto Oggiaro; bringing together music, food, art, workshops and generations of people around one shared space.
MOSAIKO means MOSAIC.
A union of different people, disciplines, points of view and experiences coming together around something we have in common to create something bigger.
That idea has always been at the heart of what we do. And when we decided to begin a new chapter for MOSAIKO in Italy, we knew that the first step had to reflect that.
We didn’t want to start in the centre of Milan.
We didn’t want a polished venue disconnected from the people and places that inspire us. We wanted to start from where culture grows; from the places where people create with what they have, where ideas move through music, art, food, fashion and community.
So we went to Quarto Oggiaro.
For one day, we brought the block together.
Different generations. Different backgrounds. Different disciplines. One space.
And what happened became much bigger than a party.
It became a moment of connection.
Throughout the day, music, food, art and workshops came together to create a space where people could simply be themselves, meet each other and experience something together.
Circolo Arci Itaca opened its doors and hosted us, while Ritmo Research and The Zungu joined us with food, energy, ideas and support throughout the project.
Through their workshops, Dare Luoghi and Lozzino gave people the tools to explore themselves through art and music, creating another layer of connection within the day.
Then came the music.
Jasley delivered an incredible live performance, while Malaika, Akadre, Ike Melchizedek, Ezri Jade and T.no kept the energy moving throughout the day and onto the dance floor.
But the most important part was never just what happened on stage.
It was what happened around it.
People in their twenties dancing alongside people in their fifties and sixties. Neighbours opening their doors to something new. Different generations sharing the same space and enjoying the same moment.
That is what MOSAIKO is about.
Finding the common thread between things that might look different at first and bringing them together to create something that couldn’t exist without all of its pieces.
We also want to give a special thank you to Patta and Quarto Musocco for sponsoring and funding the event.
Creating spaces like this takes resources, and finding that support — especially for projects happening outside the traditional cultural and commercial circuits — is not always easy. Their belief in what we were building made it possible for us to bring this vision to life.
And of course, none of this happens without people behind the scenes.
To every member of the staff who helped build, organise, prepare, run and clean up after this day — thank you.
You are part of the story too.
The Milan Block Party marked the first physical step of MOSAIKO in Italy.
But we don’t see it as a one-off event.
We see it as the beginning of a bridge.
A bridge connecting creatives, communities and ideas in Italy with the rest of the world — and bringing new perspectives from outside back into Italy.
There is an incredible generation of creatives building their own worlds across the country. We want to meet them, connect them and create with them.
We are not waiting for someone else to decide which stories deserve to be told.
We’re telling them ourselves.
