Reworking a premium chapter of Nike's archive, the Milan-based retailer introduces four leather interpretations of the iconic Air Max 95, connecting sneaker history, Italian identity and contemporary street culture.
A SILHOUETTE THAT CHANGED THE GAME
When Nike introduced the Air Max 95 in 1995, it challenged the visual language of running footwear. Designed by Sergio Lozano, the silhouette took inspiration from human anatomy, translating elements of the body into its distinctive layered construction. The gradient upper, sculptural panels and visible Air cushioning in the forefoot gave the shoe an identity unlike anything else on the market.
But the Air Max 95's impact would extend far beyond performance running. Its unconventional design and bold proportions helped it find a place in street culture, becoming a favourite among sneaker enthusiasts and music communities around the world. Thirty years later, it remains one of Nike's most recognisable silhouettes, with a legacy that continues to influence sneaker culture.
AN ITALIAN CHAPTER: THE AIR MAX 95 LUX
The connection with Italy goes back to 2001, when Nike introduced the Air Max 95 Lux as part of its Lux Pack. Reworking the original silhouette through premium leather construction and refined detailing, the Lux edition offered a more elevated interpretation of the iconic sneaker. Produced in Italy, it brought together Nike's sportswear innovation and the country's long-standing relationship with leather craftsmanship.
More than two decades later, One Block Down returns to this particular chapter of the Air Max 95 story. Founded in Milan in 2009, the retailer has built its identity around sneakers, fashion and the wider cultural conversations surrounding them. Revisiting the Lux therefore feels like a natural connection between Nike's archive and One Block Down's Italian roots.
FOUR COLOURWAYS, ONE ITALIAN IDENTITY
The collaboration introduces four interpretations of the Air Max 95 Lux: an understated all-black edition, alongside red, white and green colourways inspired by the Italian flag.
The familiar layered construction is reimagined through premium leather, textured detailing and sculptural panels, while co-branded elements on the tongue and heel reinforce the partnership. Each pair also comes with a custom metallic hangtag shaped like the Italian peninsula, bringing the collection's connection to Italy into focus.
The Italian craftsmanship story extends to the materials themselves: the leather is prepared and finished in Italy, while the finished sneakers are manufactured in Vietnam. It's a distinction worth making, but one that still highlights the role of Italian expertise in the project.
MORE THAN A SNEAKER COLLABORATION
For One Block Down, this project is about more than revisiting a familiar Nike silhouette. It brings together different chapters of sneaker history, from the Air Max 95's original cultural impact to the premium Lux edition that followed in 2001.
By introducing its own interpretation of that history, One Block Down connects Nike's archive with its Milanese identity and the culture it continues to represent.
